Soul of soil

The passionate young man Ah Ren resolutely gave up his golden rice bowl in Hsinchu Science Park and vowed to turn the huge amount of vegetable scraps and fruit peels in the city into soft and fragrant fertile soil; the almost hearing-impaired An He insisted on not using pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and opened the orchard to a paradise for insects and flies, forming a natural cycle of restoration of the ecosystem. Facing the same soil disease, two farmers, one young and one old, one active and one quiet, each tried a way to revive the dead soil, and also encountered different ideals and realities. The new work of "No Rice Music" director Yan Lanquan not only pleads for the soil, but also sublimates farming from labor to philosophy through vivid character comparisons.

2009年，金馬影展「影史百大華語電影」名單中，赫然出現唯一一部紀錄片《無米樂》，而顏蘭權、莊益增也雙雙入選＜50大華語導演＞。兩位導演長期投入紀錄片行列已超過30年的時間，擅長用真實影像來刻畫「人」的質感，以「長期蹲點」的拍攝，捕捉動容的畫面、堆砌感人的力量。例如，榮獲台北電影節百萬首獎的《無米樂》、入圍金馬獎的《牽阮的手》，這些拍攝對象都不是知名英雄，但導演卻抓住了他們做為平凡人...純樸、認真的美。
