Synopsis

What is death?

Ven. Tsung Tueng, the founder of Dabei Xueyuan, says, “Life is full of suffering and
hardship. Death is merely one of them. The only difference is that it may be the
greatest and most difficult. We start by facing death, and in that, we can find wisdom for life. This wisdom can be applied to everything we do.”

The film documents how three terminal patients, Guan Wei, Yao Hua, and Yu Shan,
face every moment of death before they die. When Guan Wei was told that he only hadone month, he was distressed by the prospect of not being able to see his elementary-school-aged twin sons You You and Ting Ting grow up. Another patient, Yao Hua, yearned to pass away peacefully in her own home, but also had to face the tensions among her family members in the final weeks of her life. The third patient, Yu Shan, was diagnosed with terminal illness when she returned to Taiwan after working overseas for a long time. Yu Shan feared not being able to see her young daughter for a final time before passing away…

“Review” delicately presents these three terminal patients with their different
attachments and sentiments towards life. Their life stories show us the difficulty in
letting go of life and facing death, as well as the courage they built up through the
process of spiritual care.
